Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.
Read Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Psalm 46:1-3
Last night I left the camp early for home so that I could provide pastoral care to a family during a time of loss. But as I was packing up my stuff, I took in the view from my window . The sun was setting, enhancing the beauty and stillness of the lake. It was perfect! Part of me wished I could live in that moment forever! I took a picture and loaded up my stuff. It was now a memory.
One of the things we discover in life is that you may not be able to hold on to everything forever. Even those things that we thought were as strong as mountains or as certain as the earth beneath our feet, can sometimes change within a second.
“We are sorry, but your child was in an accident”
“Mom, I am not the person I used to be”
“We are sorry, but we are making some changes in the company, and there is no need for your position any longer”
It is in those very moments when we feel lost in a wilderness, with no idea where to go or how to navigate back to where we came from, that God simply says to us:
Be still, and know that I am God Psalm 46:10
The truth of the matter is we may never be able to go back from where we came, but we can know that God will always be a place of refuge and strength that we can fall into.
My prayer for you today is that even in the midst of your own wilderness and losses, that God would open your eyes to his ever-present help, a place that you can experience hope for what tomorrow will bring.
