Now this I know… Psalms 20:6
David writes a prayer of blessing over God's people through the first five verses of this Psalm:
May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. Psalms 20:4
Is it just wishful thinking? I hope things work out for you….
I believe David is offering more than polite well-wishes here. He transitions in verse six to the reason he can pronounce blessing over the people with all sincerity and confidence…now this I know…
The Lord gives victory to his anointed…. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalms 20:6-7
What a strength to speak from! Take time to re-read this Psalm, hear the words of blessing spoken over you. Know that God has already given us victory in Christ and there is nothing he cannot do. Establish your trust in God over all else. And we too can speak words of blessing into other people’s lives as we act and speak in the Spirit of God, knowing that there is a power at work through us that comes from God.
Ask the Lord to bring someone into your life today who needs hope and encouragement. Ask God to give you the courage and wisdom to speak a word of blessing that is rooted in the power and love of Christ.
May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the Lord grant all your requests.
Psalm 20:5
