Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 36

I have a message from God in my heart
    concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: 
There is no fear of God
    before their eyes.    Psalm 36:1

I am not very good at receiving messages through hand signals or other non-verbal cues.  However, that is different with my wife.  Yesterday we celebrated 23 years of marriage and she is the only one who can send me non-verbal messages and I usually get them loud and clear!  We know each other and we are attuned to each other’s “silent voice”.  

Over my life, as I have walked with the Lord, I have grown in my capacity to hear God’s silent voice.  Like the Psalmist, I receive messages from God in my heart.  It is more than simply reading God’s Word.  It is God’s Word being revealed in a fuller way in my heart as I grow in my relationship with Him as my Heavenly Father.  His Spirit speaks messages of truth to me and I have a growing capacity to understand. God knows me. And each day I spend with the Lord, I get to know Him even better.  

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
    your justice like the great deep.   Psalm 36:5-6

That is the gift of prayer.  Prayer engages us in a relational way with the Spirit of God.  It brings God’s Word off the pages of the Bible and into our hearts.  It gives us eyes to see and know.  Thank God today for not only hearing your prayers, but also speaking His messages into your heart.  Ask Him to open your eyes to see and understand what he is showing you through His Word.  

Continue your love to those who know you,
    your righteousness to the upright in heart.  Psalm 36:10
