Summer Psalms - On Psalm 2

August 27, 2022

Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 2

The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath…  Psalms 2:4‭-‬5

Have you ever said to yourself, “That is so bad, I don’t know if I want to laugh or cry!”  In Psalm 2, it seems like the Lord doesn’t know of he wants to laugh or get angry…or both!  He looks at all of the world powers and sees their scheming to hold onto their “power” or gain more. In God’s view, their attempts are so ridiculous compared to his power, he “laughs”.  Yet, they also treat God’s righteousness and sovereignty with contempt which brings about His wrath.
Last night I started watching a movie with my family.  But early on it made reference to an abusive “reverend” and minutes later mocked belief in God.  I was quickly done with that movie and turned it off.  It makes me angry when God and His Church are mocked in the name of entertainment.  And yet too many times we indulge it not realizing the damage being done to the Name of our Lord.

My hope is that we would give second thought to partipating in entertainment that mocks our Lord Jesus and perpetuates negative stereotypes of His Church.  But may we instead give more thought to how we grow in Christ-likeness, so that we can show others the true nature of Christ.

Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
