Summer Psalms - On Psalm 15

PRAY Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

READ:  Psalm 15

“Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?” (Psalm 15:1)
On Thursday, Tanya and I dropped our daughter off at teen camp.  As we arrived, the youth were already setting up and arranging their belongings and sleeping bags in the tent that would be their home for the next few days.  These tents would provide shelter that would hopefully keep them protected from rain, bugs, and other nighttime critters.  I imagine that there were lots of teens asking the leaders which tent would be theirs or perhaps asking if they could trade tents because they think it would be better.

Our Psalmist, David, asks the Lord, “who may dwell in your sacred tent”?  This was no ordinary tent.  This is a special tent.  This question would have reminded the people of the tabernacle, the mobile worship center, the place of God’s presence among his people.  Who may live on your holy mountain? (vs. 1), the place where God met with Moses and gave his covenant commandments – where the presence of God thundered and shook the ground.

The question asked is quickly answered with a description of those who are righteous – full of truth, goodness, integrity, and generosity.  Those that don’t want to find shelter in any other tent.

My daughter learned quickly that these tents they are sleeping in will not be able to completely protect them.  We received a selfie of her waking up with a swollen eye from some sort of bug bite!

There are many “tents” in this world that promise to meet our needs, fulfill our dreams, and serve our self-interests.  And we are tempted to put our trust in their promised shelter but then moving from tent to tent because we soon realize that each one falls short in truly giving the life that we are created for.  In Christ, we are invited to enter into God’s “sacred tent” – to live in his salvation and under his everlasting protection.  It is only here where we find our deepest longings satisfied.

Whoever does these things will never be shaken. (vs. 5)

Let us choose our tent wisely!
